BHARATANATYAM – CLASSICAL INDIAN DANCE |
|
Bharatanatyam originated in the ancient temples of South India as an offering of love to God and to all that is divine. Bharatanatyam comes from the words:
Its technique combines dance, music, panthomime and yoga. Bharatanatyam consists of sculpturesque and graceful poses paced by a dynamic rhythm. This energizing combination mesmerizes the viewer with its charm and beauty. Using narrative movements called hasthas or mudras , the dancer depicts stories based on the Indian epics and literature. Bharatanatyam is a perfect medium to bring people closer to Indian mythology and spirituality. (more on Bharatanatyam-click on the old text...) |
